there should be a rule with american idol saying you really have to be undiscovered talent. there's another one, at least that's being highlighted, that previously had a record deal with MCA and they dropped her because she failed.
i thought we would have learned from last season, examples being david archuleta and carly smithson, that people still don't want failed child singers. let's take a look...
people who should be on idol:
david cook: he had no background other than singing in bars and stuff. he didn't even plan to audition. to me, he is a true idol winner just like chris daughtry should have been.
jason castro: he was just a stoner-looking kid with dreadlocks and a guitar. he didn't really have a strong voice, but his looks and likeability, and to me his inexperience and true talent, kept him around until the top 4.
brooke white: she was a nanny that liked to sing. the fact that she actually could sing is a big plus. she was cute and all, but she actually had talent and was unique.
blake lewis: the beatboxing got annoying, but he was unique and brought something the show hadn't seen before. he had a pretty good voice and i wasn't surprised that he made it to the finals.
gina glocksen: i liked gina. she made it as far as i expected her to, but she brought some fresh air to a sea of future pop singers. she had a look that was cute and it worked for her. i thought she had a good voice, too.
chris daughtry: amazing. that's all i have to say about chris. he should have beat out everyone. especially katherine "no talent" mcphee and that joe cocker wannabe taylor hicks.
elliott yamin: he was really good. his voice didn't match his image, but it was a lot better than most people's on that show that make it farther *cough taylor hicks cough*.
people who shouldn't be on idol:
david archuleta: this little boy scout was singing his rendition of "imagine" on morning tv shows for a couple years before the stellar performance on idol. don't believe me, youtube it. he also won star search in 2003. that's like winning an american idol for people under the age of 16. the only reason he made it as far as he did, even after fumbling the lyrics more than once and having no stage presence, is the fact that he's cute. the little 12-year old girls with unlimited texting were sitting there all night sending 100 texts to AI.
carly smithson: she previously had a deal with MCA and an album released in 2001. it was an utter failure that resulted in her being dropped from the label. she was a whiner, too.
michael johns: again, another one that previously had a record deal with maverick records. he was a punk after getting voted off and constantly complained and thought he was better than he actually was. just another failed musician trying to catch another break.
danny noriega: honestly? this kid acted like a pre-teen girl and was a complete bitch. i was happy we only had to hear 3 songs from him. we shouldn't have even heard that many.
robbie carrico: another one that was under a record label and was part of a boy band that opened for britney spears in 1999. he tried to resurface as a rocker, failed, and that's why he only lasted two weeks.
chris richardson: he's another that was kept on purely for his looks. his voice was nasal, often flat, and annoying. the fact that he made it through hollywood shocked me.
taylor hicks: he had no voice! he just yelled all the time, what the fuck?
i'm tired of them letting these people that have already had a chance (or that flat out suck) take spots away from other people that deserve a chance.
